Once neglected, the historic Market House in Piltown has undergone a remarkable transformation. Thanks to the collaboration between Kilkenny County Council and Piltown Community Enterprise, it is now a thriving hub at the heart of South Kilkenny.
From neglected building to community asset
The Market House is one of Piltown's most historically significant buildings — a centrepiece of the village for generations. For a period, it sat underused and underappreciated, its potential unrealised.
That changed when Piltown Community Enterprise (PCE) — a voluntary group with deep roots in the local community — identified an opportunity. Working with Kilkenny County Council and drawing on funding supports, PCE undertook a comprehensive renovation to transform the building into a modern, professional workspace.
The result is Market House Hub: a beautifully restored, tech-enabled coworking space that honours the heritage of the building while giving it an entirely new purpose — creating jobs, supporting entrepreneurs, and anchoring business activity in South Kilkenny.
